FAQ

Monster HQ answers your questions

Who are "the minions"?

The minions are simply called ‘Big’ and ‘Little’, which is attributed to their sizes. They are creatures from the other world who have found themselves in our world, where they create various pieces of art and design for your enjoyment.

But who are they?

‘Big’ and ‘Little’ Minion are artists and designers (from the other world). They blend performance art into their works and allow you to see the other world through their visual stories.

What is Performance art?

Performance art is an art form with often topical themes that is normally performed live to an audience or onlookers (as on a street) and may involve audience participation. It tends to draw on such arts as acting, poetry, music, dance, or painting.

What is 'the Other World'?

The Other World is a dark fairytale world where bizarre, odd and sometimes dangerous monsters and creatures roam. An unkempt, untamable world where the unexpected is expected, where magic is more powerful than science and humans are mere snacks.

Who owns Here Be Monsters?

I do, I’m simply called ‘A’ and Big & Little Minion too of course!

Where does your inspiration come from?

We’re often inspired by the world around us, music is also a big source of inspiration at Monster HQ and the Minions are often listening to music whilst working on pieces.

Traditional vs. Digital?

The Minions draw almost 100% traditionally, using pencils, pens and paper from start to finish. They occasionally work directly in Photoshop but for the most part, work is done traditionally with inks, paints, graphite & charcoal.

What tools/mediums do you use?

Big Minion uses Derwent sketching pencils, Derwent Graphik pens, stick & ink, Willow charcoal, Acrylic paints & Watercolours to produce their work.

Little Minion uses pencils, pens, inks, watercolour, acrylic & oil paints, charcoal, pastels and is fond of dip pens to produce their work.

Do you take commissions?

We have tried giving the Minions commission work in the past, however, they tend to just create what they want as opposed to what we asked. You can send a commission request via our contact page but we cannot guarantee the Minions will entertain you.

Can I get free artwork?

Sometimes we are approached to do artwork for free for people or organisations. At this point in time we don’t do any artwork free of cost. That said the Minions have been known to produce free work for a good cause

If you would like work for a non-profit, charity based company or an ill fan on HBM then contact us and we’ll see if the Minions will help.

Requesting interviews?

If you are interested in interviewing the Minions for a blog feature or any kind of publication (online or other), please inquire by contacting us.
